As we start a new year, there’s always a drive to make resolutions but should we rush into that? Shouldn’t we first have a retrospective on the year just past? Before deciding what we should do this year, let’s take a look at what went well last year. What worked? What should we continue to do? What didn’t work? What should we stop doing? And, if we’re unsure of something then maybe we need to experiment a little more with it?
Personally, I’ve expanded my private practice at Fitzwilliam Sq. having just completed my 2nd year there. Last year’s resolution was to develop the supervision aspect of my practice and I’m delighted to say that I recently started as an external Group Supervisor with PCI College. The new year also sees me offering group supervision to the dedicated and skilled therapists with the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.
Last year, I completed my IPM training in Psychosexual Medicine under the supervision of Dr Caroline Hunter and continue to attend SSSTDI meetings to ensure that my domain knowledge is always up to date. As always I remain committed to continuous professional development which is essential as a therapist and supervisor.
In addition to IPM and SSSTDI meetings and training, I attended the DCU Supervision conference in May organised in conjunction with the IACP.
So, however you decide your New Year’s resolutions, and even if you decide not to make any. You should at least consider not doing the things that haven’t been working for you!
